For the Roses is the fifth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. Following up a success album like Blue is always difficult, and indeed, it is not in the same class. That said, in its own right, this is a very worthwhile album, in which Joni starts to seriously experiment with jazz influences in some songs, while retaining the folk rock feeling for others, and including a few hybrids - and the combination works remarkably well. A few of my preferred tracks would be the title track,
Cold Blue Steel And Sweet Fire,
Barangrill,
Let The Wind Carry Me, and
Woman Of Heart And Mind.
