Hamburger Concerto is the fourth studio album by the Dutch progressive rock band Focus. The A-side contains four widely different songs, from the classical music inspired
La Cathedrale de Strasbourg to the eclectic
Harem Scarem. The title track, covering most of the B-side, is a 20 minutes prog suite, in part based on
Variations on a Theme by Haydn by Johannes Brahms. Throughout the album, the musicianship of the band members, especially Akkerman and van Leer, gets a chance to shine. To my taste, their best work.
