The Velvet Underground and Nico is the debut album by American rock band the Velvet Underground, at the time with German singer/model Nico taking turns for the lead vocals with Lou Reed . The album is highly experimental musically with controversial topics like drug abuse, sadomasochism and sexual deviancy. Although it sold poorly, it is now regarded as one of the most influential albums in the history of popular music. As Brian Eno quipped: "everyone who bought a copy started a band." It remains essential listening, also for me. Favourite songs include I'm Waiting For The ManFemme FataleAll Tomorrow's Parties, and the understated love song I'll Be Your Mirror.
