Parachutes is the debut studio album by the British alternative rock band Coldplay. It must be a contender for the best debut album of the century so far - it was a critical success and a chart hit, with over 8 million copies sold. The sound is rather individual and new, with some influences of dream pop and art rock. The excellent hit singles Yellow and Trouble are the outstanding tracks, but the rest of the songs is predominantly great as well, especially Don't Panic, Shiver, Sparks, and High Speed. They went on to become even more successful, but for me their debut is still their best album.
