Central Reservation is the second studio album by British singer-songwriter Beth Orton. There's such a thing as sophomore slump: following up a successful debut album with a disappointing second effort. This is the opposite: as good as the debut was, this one is even better. Less electronics, more emphasis on her unique soulful voice in songs that swerve between folk, jazz, rock and blues. A solid effort throughout, but I'd like to draw extra attention to Stolen Car, Sweetest Decline, Pass In Time, Stars All Seem To Weep, Blood Red River, and Feel To Believe.
