The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the debut studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd. It is the only album made under founding member and lead singer Syd Barrett's leadership. Although it did not include their excellent hit single
See Emily Play, reception was generally positive and it has maintained that status over the decades. The album is a prime example of psychedelic rock, with Barrett especially prone to taking LSD frequently. The outstanding tracks for me are (predictably)
Astronomy Domine and the almost 10 minutes (17 minutes on later CD issues) instrumental
Interstellar Overdrive., but also songs like
Bike and
The Gnome, which are more in the style of their hit singles.
