Songs of Leonard Cohen is the debut album by Canadian folk singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen. And what a debut it was. Lyrics of poetic quality, beautiful melodies, tasteful arrangements (even if Cohen did not approve of them himself), and the instantly recognizable voice going through these gorgeous ballads. Although contemporary reviews were mixed, in hindsight the album is recognized as a landmark. Predictably, my absolute favourites are Suzanne and Sisters Of Mercy, but also very good are songs like Master Song, The Stranger Song, and Stories Of The Street.
