American Pie is the second studio album by the American singer-songwriter Don McLean. Generally considered his masterpiece, with the stunning 8 minutes title track and the beautiful ballad about Vincent van Gogh drawing most attention. But other songs like
Till Tomorrow,
Winterwood,
Crossroads, and especially
Empty Chairs are not that less great. McLean also shows he does not shy away from controversy with the anti-war song
The Grave. He never got close to the level of this album again, but as one critic noted: "After all, if the music has died, what else is there to say?"
