Dark Matter
IQ

  1. Sacred Sound
  2. Red Dust Shadow
  3. You Never Will
  4. Born Brilliant
  5. Harvest Of Souls
Dark Matter is the ninth studio album by the British neo-progressive rock band IQ. It is widely seen as one of their best, and I agree with that completely. The opening track Sacred Sound sets the scene, a brilliant neo-prog epic, clearly inspired by, but not copied from, the mid seventies giants of the prog scene, Genesis. Peter Nicholls' singing (on the whole album) agrees better with me than on any of the other albums. Of the three shorter songs that follow, I particularly like the mellotron-drenched ballad Red Dust Shadow. But the absolute highlight of the album is the closing melodious 24 minutes suite Harvest Of Souls, quite possibly the best song they ever recorded. Once again, shades of Genesis (Supper's Ready!), but that does not take anything away from the sheer quality of this work. A great album.
