American Idiot is the seventh studio album by American punk rock band Green Day. By far the best album in their discography, this swinging "punk rock opera" follows the story of a lower-middle-class American adolescent anti-hero, in a period shaped by 9/11, Bush, and the Iraq War. It was a critical and commercial success, topping the album charts in many countries. Two of the songs (Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming) are great nine minutes five-part suites, pretty unusual for a punk band (punk goes prog?). Other songs that stand out are Holiday, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, Are We The Waiting, Give Me Novacaine, Extraordinary Girl, and especially by far the best song they ever recorded, Wake Me Up When September Ends.
