Out of Myself
Riverside
Out of Myself is the first studio album by the Polish progressive rock band Riverside. Although they are often classified as prog metal, I think their sound is more like heavy prog. No matter what label you use though, this is a strong and individual album, clearly one of the debuts of the century. The opening track (the 12 minutes epic The Same River) is amazing, but the rest of the album is excellent as well. Melodious songs, excellent singing and playing (awesome guitars!), and the metal riffs used effectively and not for their own sake. And plenty of variety in sounds, from muscular and hard driven to pyschedelic and subtle. Other tracks I like very much include I Believe, In Two Minds, The Curtain Falls, and the mellow closer OK.
